Lap Surgery

I would love to know what to expect, any success stories, anything you could share with me.

I've been TTC since 9/2011 (#1) and I am scheduled for my lap surgery on Nov 30. I'm nervous, scared and worried about it and what they will find.

Hi there,

Don't be scared. It's very good that you are having this procedure, it's the only way they will truly know what is going on inside you.

I have had 5 laps now, beginning when I was 19 (I am now 25).

The op is short - between 45mins and 1.5hrs, depending on what they find. I have endometriosis, so with me they always spend a bit longer taking out the "yucky bits".

Afterwards, you will feel a little sore in your tummy, and probably quite sore in your chest/shoulders. This is because they fill your abdomen with air so they have more room to look around, and after they let all the air back out, some of it might stay trapped in there, and the little air bubbles rise to the tops of your shoulders and under your ribcage, causing them to ache. I find this the sorest part - usually it makes me forget about my tummy! But don't worry, it goes away after a couple of days, and painkillers will help.

Don't be worried about "what they will find". I was relieved when they found I had endo, because it meant I could be treated and there was a plan going forward. The frustrating thing is if they find nothing, because then you still don't know what's wrong with you.

If you have any questions that you have forgotten to ask your dr, feel free to ask here. I'm not an expert or anything, but as I've said, I've been there and done that a few times, so I might have some advice to give, without all the medical speak.

Best of luck - it'll be over before you know it, and it's so worth it.

Take care xox

I also have possible endo and my doctor is getting close to recommending a lap in the next month he said. I have a lot of pain, and also haven't gotten preg yet so guess I should give it a go.

I've been having similar concerns about the procedure so ur answer was very helpful. Also do you know if you have to wait a month before ttc after the lap?

how many stitches did u have to get?

Thx Lyn

Hi Chef :)

It's only two or three stitches in each incision (there will be two incisions), and my stitches have always been dissolvable, so I never had to get them removed. Now I have tiny scars where the incisions were, but you really have to look for them - they are about 1cm across.

I TTC again as soon as I felt ready to, which was definitely within a month. My doctor is an OB/GYN who specialises in high-risk pregnancies, and he told me that many people say not to try again right away, but there is actually no evidence to prove that doing so is in any way risky.

I say, just try again when you're ready - but that's just my advice (and my Dr's)

I really wish you the best of luck.
